Meet the Pastor

Rev. Cindy Mood

Rev. Cindy Mood recently became pastor of Lockhart's First Presbyterian Church following the unanimous invitation of its ruling elders. Pastor Cindy grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas and was always intrigued by her grandfather, a retired Presbyterian minister. She went to Hastings, College in Nebraska with the intention of studying Philosophy and Religion. While in college, Cindy added a third major in Psychology stemming from her interest in child development; Cindy's parents were foster parents and fostered nearly seventy children during Cindy's childhood. After graduating college, Cindy moved to Austin, Texas to purse a dual degree from the University of Texas' School of Social Work and Austin Presbyterian Seminary's Master of Divinity. Cindy graduated with her Master of Divinity and Master of Social Work degrees in May of 2015 and continues to live in Austin with her husband Charles Mood who is enrolled at UT pursing an inter-disciplinary Ph.D. in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. Cindy and Charles plan to welcome their first child in May of 2019.

Pastor Cindy is delighted to serve Lockhart's oldest organized church, First Presbyterian Church, which was established in 1949. As the first female pastor, Cindy looks forward to uniting former traditions with new missions. Pastor Cindy invites anyone seeking a church home to attend First Presbyterian's Sunday morning services, held regularly at 11:00 AM.

During the week, Cindy can be reached via phone as she serves as Bereavement Coordinator and Social Worker with a local Austin-area hospice company. Cindy's passion has always been to serve the underserved, hence her experience working with children in out-patient mental health clinics, maximum security male inmates in correctional facilities, aging and disabled adults in nursing homes and families facing the loss of loved ones in hospice care. If you are interested in talking to a pastor or meeting a friendly face for lunch, don't hesitate to ask Cindy. She is always up for good food and conversation.
